Casey Trees is committed to enhancing, restoring, and protecting the tree canopy’s in Washington DC. It was founded in 2002 in the Washington D.C. area. They look to provide engaging classroom and field learning opportunities year-round that foster collaboration, prompt discussion and make us all better stewards of D.C.’s fragile urban forest. One such example is ROOTS, or Restoring Our Own Trees Through Service, which is an education initiative that aims to provide teachers and students with methods to connect with their schoolyard environment. ROOTS utilizes familiar academic disciplines, such as math, reading, and science, to encourage teachers and students to use their backyard forest as their outdoor classroom.
