American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) is a local group of engineers with a big STEM ambition. ASNE developed the Future Leaders in Experience-based Engineering and Technology (FLEET), a 100% free STEM video game that engages students in the engineering design process through shipbuilding. FLEET is an innovative, competitive ship design video game for high school students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

This program was piloted in the academic year of 2016-2017 and is looking for new interested schools and organizations to participate this upcoming year. Students will be challenged to make realistic ship design decisions for Navy vessels that will be used to complete various missions. The video trailer can be viewed here.

This Fall they will be supplementing free curriculum materials to assist schools that would like to use FLEET as a curricular supplement or as an after-school activity. There are grants you can apply for to offset the purchase of technology or supplies to run a STEM program. Funds can also be used to offset after-school teacher support. In the Spring, your students may also have the opportunity to participate in a face-to-face competition at ASNE conference in Philadelphia or San Diego. Travel grants are available to offset travel to the symposium as well.
