She served as Dean of the School of Education at Trinity Washington University. Prior to her work at Trinity, Dr. Mitchell was the Vice President for Unit Accreditation with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Dr. Mitchell has also served as a Research Associate in the Education Policy Center at the Urban Institute, a non-profit research group in Washington, D.C. She began her career as a secondary Social Studies teacher at Hine Jr. High School in Washington, DC. She served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cesar Chavez Charter Schools. She also served on the advisory board for the Baccalaureate and Beyond studies conducted by the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) and as a member of the Council of Chief State School Officers’ committee charged with revising the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards.
